Tribal Textiles was founded in 1991 by Gillie Lightfoot and is based in Zambia on the edge of the South Luangwa National Park. A small team of local artists help to produce a wide range of products including hand painted textiles, soft furnishings and home accessories. Each item can take three to five days to complete and no two are the same, each having a story and character of their own. I have been working for Tribal Textiles now for 15 years and have seen the company grow from a small workshop in the bush - with a few tables set under large ebony trees, to a thriving small business of 170 staff. We are located in a remote corner of Zambia where unemployment is high. We have been supplying Traidcraft now for more than 10 years which has helped make the company one of Zambia's strongest craft businesses.
