Meet the producers: Mavis Thompson, Batiker, Batiking & Sewing Center (Cape Coast). Born and raised in Cape Coast, Mavis learned her craft in 1989 and opened her own shop called "Press on Towards the Goal". After only a few years, a lack of customers made it impossible for Mavis to afford the expensive batiking supplies necessary to maintain her business. She was forced to close her shop and find alternative work selling lace and curtains by the side of the road. Vida Donkoh (Seamstress), Batiker, Batiking & Sewing Center (Cape Coast).
Before working for Global Mamas, Vida started her career as a seamstress working on her own. She heard about how Global Mamas helps women gain financial independence through utilizing their seamstress or batiking skills from her sister Pats. She struggled to pay bills before Global Mamas but is now making enough money to save for her dreams and child's future education. Her favorite thing about sewing is the experience she gets from it and the satisfaction of the finished product. She loves working with good and trustworthy people. God's grace continues to make her smile everyday. Vida is often seen with her beautiful 11 month old child. |
