Parasite Vine Owl, Hand carved from a piece of Rainforest Parasitic Vine.

These are truly unique items, each hand carving is different according to the piece of vine. They vary in size from 15 - 20 cm (6" - 8"), the handiwork is intricate and surprisingly accurate bearing in mind the constraints of the pieces of vine.

These beautiful carvings are made by the villagers of the Highlands in Bali. The parasitic vine attacks the Chinaberry Tree in Indonesia. To preserve the tree, infected areas are cut off, dried and sorted and later used for carving. Each piece of vine is chosen for its shape and texture then, using only chisels, knives and their skill, carved into these remarkable pieces. After each item has been photographed, we carefully wrap it, protecting any fragile parts, and place it in a mailing carton securely packed in polystyrene "shrimps", it is then weighed and labelled, ready for dispatch.
